Production Schedule and Update 30/12/15

1:45pm- Begin Shooting
4:45pm- End Shooting

The shoot had minor issues but they were corrected and I was able to achieve what I wanted.

Below is as shot taken from the shoot. This shoot involved the introduction of the other LEGO people. I wanted to use the idea of the LEGO people "falling from the sky" as it added to the magical fiction feel the music video has. It also creates humour for the audience.

Digipak & Poster Update

I have improved the shape of the triangle on the poster. I have added the CD cover to my poster. I have added the website to my poster. I have made the download platforms logos smaller. I have also made the text smaller to fit for the 3rd of the page. I have made the main design in the centre of the page.
On the digipak, I have removed the image book. I have created a new design of several of my triangle's together. I have changed the text colour and made sure everything was straight.
There are still some improvements I need to do to make to get the finished product.

Digipak & Poster Update

I have changed both the poster and digipak after the feedback that I received. I have perfected the lines on both the digipak and poster. I have reduced the amount of text on the poster. I have changed the design of parts of my digipak. I have changed the logo's on the poster.

7/12/2015 Production

I was able to film the first part of the music video which is the part of my music video which is not stop-motion animation. The shoot was successful as I was able to film what I planned to film.

This first shoot included shooting the beginning part of my music video where we are introduced to the boy and to the LEGO DJ. I wanted to use the idea that the shoots are gradually getting closer and closer ending in close up shots of the LEGO DJ. This adds to the magical humorous feel I wanted for my music video.

Digipak Design Update

The above is my digipak design in its current form. I have some things to tweet before the design is finished.

10 Things That Can Ruin My Music Video

  1. Lighting- If the lighting is too light it will not suit the dark look I want and if it is too dark I may not be able to see the music video. I will make sure I will choose the correct type of lighting.
  2. Poor Cinematography- If the cinematography if wrong or blurry it will make my MV look amateur. I will make sure I film it correctly with multiple shoots.
  3. Battery Dying- If the battery goes dead I will not be able to film for the rest of the day. I will bring a spare battery and charger.
  4. Incorrect Props- If the props are bad, they will not be suitable for the music video. Have a backup of props and correctly source them.
  5. Poor Editing- The editing can ruin the look I want and make the MV look inconsistent. Using the correct editing skills and checking things over.
  6. Managing LEGO Pieces Incorrectly- If they are not managed properly they may not be able to work in the MV. I will make sure I use everything to make them be controlled and look realistic as possible.
  7. Incorrect/Inappropriate shots- The incorrect shots will look wrong in the MV and not fit with its image. I will make sure I have meticulously chosen the shots correctly.
  8. Using Camera Incorrectly- The wrong camera skills will make the MV look amateur. I will use the camera correctly.
  9. Managing Time Incorrectly- Wrong time management may not have filming done in time. I will create a calendar to manage my time.
  10. Changing Of Set- If the set has changed then the MV will be inconsistent. I will make sure the set is the same every time I film.

Props Planning

The below is the screen shots of the props I have ordered which are required to shoot my music video. The baseplate is used so the lego people can walk. The figures are the people in the music video. The Radio DJ lego figure is used as the main character in my music video. The building bricks are used to build the set.

Pitch Script

SLIDE TWO-
Exödus (A.K.A Neil Barry) is an EDM artist born in 1990, Cornwall. Despite having a religious background which gave him inspiration for him name, he found his true path in the EDM genre around the age of 18. He moved from his small country background to London to try and get a chance of being a success. He was spotted by a music producer doing a small gig in a club in London who then gave him the right paths to be in the EDM music genre.
He is very popular in Europe and especially Germany thus why his name also has German influences. None of his singles have been a major success in the UK but he hopes that his new single will give him major success.

SLIDE THREE-
These are the mood boards I created for Exödus which represent the genre of EDM and what it is about. On the mood board you can see bright colours such as bright blues, reds and greens. These are typical for the EDM genre and I want to reflect that in my digipak, poster and music video.

SLIDE FOUR-

Exödus will reflect traditional audience stereotypes of the EDM genre.
EDM is a genre related to young people aged from 16-25 and after research which took place such as questionnaires, I have found that younger people tend to be more involved with this genre. EDM is related to the club scene and the age demographic of 18-25 visit clubs the most.
EDM is generally targeted towards both genders although I could say that Exödus is more targeted towards men than women as the main artist is male himself and this shows a relation towards the artist and listener.
Exödus wouldn’t trap himself towards one social class although the EDM genre tends to be more towards lower-middle classes as upper classes relate to the more classical genre stereotypically.

SLIDE FIVE-
·      Exödus’s audience should have an outgoing personality. They should be fun and enjoy partying.
·      They should be sociable and carefree. They shouldn’t have worries or issues.
·      Many would spend their money on clubbing and CD’s of their favourite artists.
·      They may enjoy experimenting with music and creating music of their own.

SLIDE SIX-
·      I am making a music video for the Daft Punk song “Harder better faster stronger”. I chose this song as it has a good EDM vibe which matched with my artist. I have decided to make an interesting twist to the music video which many EDM artists do, I will be using just LEGO characters instead of humans. The music video will take some inspiration from Toy Story as it will have the leave room, come alive idea. The music video begins with a boy playing with LEGO, he leaves the room and the LEGO comes alive. The DJ LEGO figurine builds himself a club set with his own DJ table whilst other LEGO figurines coming alive to join in with the party. At the ¾ mark, the LEGO people turn on the TV and a party scene takes place. At the end of the music video, the boy walks into the room and the LEGO people and pieces collapse on the club floor once again referencing the Toy Story idea.
SLIDE SEVEN-
·     There is a link between lyrics and visuals as the lyrics say about becoming ‘bigger’ and ‘better’ whilst the LEGO people build the DJ set and make it larger.
·      The music links with the visuals as robots are related with futurism and the music is very futuristic.
·      Genre characteristics featured in the music video include the dance scenes and the DJ set. This is featured in many EDM music videos.
·      The artist is not in the music video as his is a popular characteristic of the genre.

SLIDE EIGHT-
·      This is my animatic for my music video

Exodus Digipak Update

This is my digipak production so far. i have chosen to stick with the blue & purple colour scheme and with those patterns. I have used my photoshop skills to manipulate and change the filters, designs, gradients and other aspects of my graphic design to make it seem more interesting to the eye.

UPDATE ON DIGIPAK PRODUCTION

I am not doing a photo-shoot as I have decided to do a graphic design type digipak which only requires the use of skills on Adobe Photoshop.
I will begin production for the digipak on Tuesday 3rd November.

Digipak Planning

The above CD designs are similar to what I want to achieve for my Digipak. I chose to do a graphic design type digipak as this is common for EDM artists. I chose to make patterns that resemble a DJ/Club setting. The name of the artist and self titled album will be in the middle of the CD cover as similar to the Keane album. I want to use the idea of lines and circles in my album. Inside the digipak will also be the artists logo.

Digipak & Poster Plan

My digipak is brightly coloured which reflects the genre of EDM. It has the main star of the music video, the DJ robot Lego man on the front cover of the digipak. The front cover is a club scene as the EDM genre is based around clubbing and DJ''s. I am having a CD for the album but also a DVD which will be a short documentary type video on Exodus and will show clips from some of his early gigs. There will also be a book which will have thanks from Exodus to people who helped create the album and the lyrics to the tracks on the CD. I have chosen the house style to be my artists logo as this is something which is featured heavily with the EDM genre as logo is seen to be more important than the artists image. The logo is of the o in exodus's name and it is umlauted to show style and reflect his German background. It is the same colours as featured on the rest of the digipak. The track listing is written in the house colour style and has songs all relating to the EDM genre.

Similar Media Products Avicii

Tim Bergling better known by his stage name Avicii is a Swedish DJ, remixer, and record producer. Avicii was ranked 3rd on DJ Magazine‍‍ '‍s annual Top 100 DJs in 2012 and 2013 and has been nominated twice for a Grammy Award, once for his work on "Sunshine" with David Guetta in 2012 and once for his song "Levels" in 2013. Some of his most famous songs are "I Could Be the One" with Nicky Romero, "Wake Me Up", "You Make Me", "X You", "Hey Brother", "Addicted to You", "The Days", "The Nights", and "Waiting For Love".
  1. Genre Characteristics- Wake me up includes shots of a festival style performance which is common to the electronic dance scene. This works particularly well as it is something the young target audience can relate to
  2. Relationship between lyrics and visuals- There does not seem to be a reference between the lyrics and visuals
  3. Relationship between music and visuals- There is a clear relationship between music and visuals, for a start, the editing matches the beat of the music. In addition to this; during the main ‘dance’ part of the song, the shots of Avicii playing the festival are shown with the crowd and lighting effects, this suggests that there is a serious link between music and visuals
  4. Artist close ups- There appear to be a few shots of avicii at the festival. These are the only shots of him and so there clearly wasn’t a huge demand from the record label, suggesting that the music and narrative are more important.
  5. Notion of looking- There is an obvious example of this when everybody is looking at the main female character and her daughter as they walk through the street. This appears to be due to the strange clothes the main character is wearing as a pose to voyeuristic reasons
  6. Intertextual references- Yes-to popular culture. The festival shots are a clear reference to popular culture.
